Fireline Kinship is a short film by Taylor Baptiste that forms part of her solo exhibition of the same name, exploring the deep connections between land, memory, body, and visual language in the context of fire and ecological change. Prompted by the urgency of climate pressures in her home territory and the 2021 Nk’Mip Wildfire, the work reflects on both the devastation of fire and its role in renewal and transformation through the lens of Syilx storytelling, ceremony, and ways of knowing.
The film activates sculptural regalia through dance, song, and ceremony on the land where they were made, inviting viewers to listen closely to the land, to memory, and to the possibilities of collective strength, resilience, and care in the face of shared challenges.
